About Us

The Wollondilly Heritage Centre and Museum is run and staffed by volunteers from The Oaks Historical Society.

Our Mission:
Volunteers from The Oaks Historical Society Inc manage the Wollondilly Heritage Centre and Museum to collect, research and interpret the material culture and local history of the Wollondilly Shire and Burragorang Valley, in cooperation with other organisations and the community, to better appreciate the present by an increased understanding of the past.

Volunteers are encouraged to assist with museum and tourism activities.

Opening Hours: Every weekend and public holiday from 10am to 3pm

Entry to museum is adults – $3.00, School age children – $1.00, Families – $7.00

Closed Christmas until Australia Day and Good Friday

Tours are welcome by pre-bookings.

A special program Heritage Discovery Tour, includes a home cooked Devonshire tea, DVD presentation and museum tour. Cost $12 per person.

Primary schools can book for a Hands-on-History interactive tour which is geared to the school curriculum. Cost $6.60 per student. Allow approximately three hours for the best result. A barbeque is available for self catered lunches.

Friendly volunteers welcome visitors to the Museum and Shop.
Devonshire teas are served on shady verandahs.

Disability Access – All buildings provide access for people with mobility difficulties.

Volunteers needed:

Education group. People to work on Thursdays during term time using museum objects to demonstrate domestic appliances (making butter, washing, ironing) agricultural machinery (grading apples, washing eggs) and teaching in a bush school. No experience necessary – just a sense of humour!

Tour hostesses. People to work on flexible time scale to cook slices and biscuits for visiting groups, serve morning tea and serve in the shop. Training will be supplied.

Archives. People with an interest in cataloguing documents and entering onto card index system. Training will be supplied.

General Meetings are held on the First Monday of each month at 7pm in the drill hall.
