Schools Program

The School Program provides hands on experience of past and present life in Australia. Through an enquiry approach the children will explore a range of sources used by our pioneers.

Group activities include:

- Working in a Pioneer Cottage where the children will experience butter making and see how food was cooked and preserved.
-They will view a treadle machine and other equipment used by our pioneers
- They will experience a Laundry day – washing, starching, soap making, scrubbing boards, water carrying, ironing and mangling.
- Grading and packing fruit, chicken farming and egg packing.
- Using hand operated agricultural tools
- Coal mining practices
- Indigenous art activities
- Lesson in a bush school
- Dairyfarming in the area

School Group Details

Number of Students: minimum 15; maximum 60
Duration of Visit: 10:00am – 1:00pm (3 hours approximately)
Cost per student: $6.60 (inc GST, accompanying adults free)
Children are divided into 6 groups and rotate through 6 varied activities, an adult with each group is appreciated but not essential

The School Program is designed for pupils from Year 1 to Year 6. We take into consideration the school curriculum and syllabus when creating our programs for the children.

Preschool groups and High Schools may arrange a separate program
We recommend the students eat morning tea on arrival.
