Interview with Peter Robinson June 2024 By Vicki Madeley
Why do you collect things?
At first I collected cheap things like match boxes, stamps, beer cans then I realised there was no money in these collections so I started to look for things that were more interesting and rare or hard to find to keep in the future. I turned from a collector of large volumes of cheap things to more quality collections. These items a;so had a story attached to the pieces and that’s what I liked about collecting was the stories that went with the item.
How long have you been collecting?
In 1951 my family came to Australia as part of the 10 Pound Pom scheme and on the boat here my Dad gave me the spare change coins from the different ports we stopped over in foreign currency. From these coins I started to collect things.
What is this collection about?
Milk bars and the milk industry. I also like to display my collections in interesting ways so I build display boards. The Milk bar display is one of them. Milk bars were a big part of my youth as we would love getting a milkshake and meeting our friends.
Peter has many collections here are just a few:
Fans, Pegs, spoons, Navy, POW Holsworthy, Horse drawn equipment, confectionary, cowboy, Games, drinks, Mining, schools and Flight.
