The Vegemite Collector

We always ate Vegemite and still do……The jars were kept and reused as cups and other purposes. At one stage Mum bought 6 pound tins and we refilled the little jars. Eventually I decided the old jars should be kept so I put them aside.
In the 1980’s, and 90’s they bought out Vegemite memorabilia such as Place Mats, even a game that were only obtained by tokens collected under the lids of the vegemite. I remember going from shop to shop to buys jars so we could get the tokens.
Vegemite isn’t just a spread – it’s part of Aussie heritage. Whether it’s on toast, crackers, or in cheesy scrolls, it’s stood the test of time. Did you know?
🟡 Vegemite was first made in 1923 as an Australian alternative to Marmite.
🟡 It's made from leftover brewers' yeast extract – packed full of B vitamins!
🟡 During WWII, it was included in Australian Army rations.
🟡 More than 22 million jars are sold in Australia every year!
It’s salty, strong, and definitely an acquired taste for some – but for many of us, it's a childhood staple and a source of national pride.
